I’ve written this article with one goal in mind: to clearly explain what SAGES is and why it matters. Many pastors and ministry leaders have asked, “What is SAGES?”—and the answer reveals a powerful, often overlooked opportunity within the local church.

The Meaning Behind SAGES

SAGES stands for Senior Adults Giving Evangelistic Support.

At its core, SAGES is a ministry designed specifically for senior adults—those who are still actively serving, as well as those who may be finding their way back into ministry involvement. It embraces a simple but profound truth once expressed by Terry Shock:

“It’s not retirement—it’s repositioning.”

SAGES recognizes that senior adults are not stepping away from purpose—they are stepping into a new season of impact.

A Ministry Built from the Ground Up

For SAGES to truly thrive, it must function from the local church level upward.

While there may be national structure and leadership, the real strength of SAGES comes through:

  • Local church involvement
  • Sectional leadership support
  • District-level vision and participation
